On July 6, 2020, at approximately 9:57 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a traffic crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Goddard Street and North Academy Boulevard. CSFD and medical personnel also responded. Upon arrival on scene, officers determined a Subaru was driving southbound on Academy Boulevard and attempted to make a left turn at Goddard Street, while a Ford sedan was traveling northbound on Academy Boulevard in the right through lane when the two vehicles collided in the intersection. The adult male in the sedan was transported to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
On July 7, 2020, CSPD officers responded to a residence in the 5900 block of Nora Point to investigate a reported dead body. The reporting party advised officers that her husband had been in the hospital due to injuries sustained in a car crash. They had just returned home from the hospital when he became unresponsive. Officers learned the adult male at the residence was the same individual involved in the July 6 traffic collision stated above. Despite life-saving measures, the adult male deceased on scene.
On August 18, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased male as 85-year-old Ronald Yost and declared his passing as a result of the traffic crash.
The driver of the Subaru, 66-year-old Robert Ryan was charged with Vehicles Turning Left. Neither excessive speed nor impairment were considered factors in this crash.
Mr. Yost is the 24th traffic crash fatality in Colorado Springs in 2020. At this time in 2019, there were 28 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
