Online survey opens Feb. 23
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department invites the community to help shape the Master and Management Plan for Fishers Canyon Open Space.
“We are excited to kickoff public engagement for the Fishers Canyon Open Space Master and Management Plan,” said David Deitemeyer, Parks, Recreation and Cultural services sr. landscape architect. “We want to ensure that the space reflects the desires of the community, while also preserving its natural beauty and ecological integrity. By involving the public in this process, we can create a space that everyone can enjoy and be proud of.”
Through public meetings, community surveys and workshops, the planning process seeks to engage community members, stakeholders, environmental experts and recreational enthusiasts to develop a set of recommendations that reflects the importance of preserving this unique ecosystem while enabling recreational opportunities.
Located in the southwest foothills of Colorado Springs, Fishers Canyon Open Space was purchased by the City in two phases in 2021 and 2022. The 343 acres of open space borders Cheyenne Mountain State Park, the Broadmoor Bluffs neighborhood and Pike National Forest. Currently, there are no designated trails or official access. The property will remain closed to the public until a trail system, trailhead and management plan is established through the public process.
The community engagement process will begin with an online survey which will be made available on the project website on Friday, Feb. 23.
