On Sunday, July 21st at 8:58 p.m. the Colorado Springs Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 4660 N Nevada Ave.
Engine 9 arrived on scene 3 minutes later to a commercial-style restaurant with fire coming from the side and roof of the building.
A second alarm was eventually called due to the fire spreading quickly through the attic and because of the large size of the building. The fire was declared under control at 9:46 p.m. No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
CSFD Fire Investigators responded and determined the cause of the fire was unintentional due to an electrical malfunction within a neon transformer. A neon transformer is a device that increases voltage to send electricity to power neon signs. A total of 67 firefighters responded to this incident. Southbound Nevada Ave was closed between Eagle Rock and Austin Bluffs for a period of time while crews fought the fire. The CSFD was the onlyfire agency that responded to the fire.
