The City of Colorado Springs invites residents and visitors to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month this July in Olympic City USA.
To recognize Park and Recreation Month, numerous free community events are taking place throughout Colorado Springs and online. These include a coloring contest for kids and the annual Discover COS Calendar photo contest. New this year is the Challenge Card Contest that encourages self-guided exploration of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) facilities. Complete 10 items on the card for a chance to win one of six prizes.
PRCS will also host the following free community events:
- Thursday, July 6, 5-8 p.m.: Zumba in the Park and Community Fair at Panorama Park
- Saturday, July 15, 9 a.m.- noon: Family Fun Walk at Memorial Park
- Friday, July 28, 5-6 p.m.: Music in the Park in Piñon Valley Park
A program of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), the goal of National Park and Recreation Month is to recognize the essential services that park and recreation professionals provide to the community and to reflect on the exponential value local parks and open spaces have on our quality of life.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is the leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation. With more than 60,000 members, NRPA advances this mission by investing in and championing the work of park and recreation professionals and advocates — the catalysts for positive change in service of equity, climate-readiness, and overall health and well-being.
